I have been claiming for myself & my wife. I have been on a TUS scheme for the past 4 months. My wife wants to do a course but has been told she will need to put in her own claim. How will that then work?
Will I still get paid the same amount & she get her own claim or will what I'm getting be reduced? Will she have to wait before she gets paid?

Call into your local office and ask them to split your claim.Between you,, you will get the same total amount.

Basically the payment you are currently getting on TUS will be reduced. if she makes her own claim then you as a couple will only be able to receive what you are gettin on TUS... the total amount will be divided between you both.

Correct from eastbono once more. Though we've clashed, great contributor here.

OP, you can't 'back-date' it, but anyone else reading this, note for the future that the best way to structure this is:
    1. Have the wife claim for you (i.e wife=primary claimant; you=iqa claiming credits)
    2. Then go on Tus

This is because Tus moves you to €208* from whatever base you were on. It is better to move from €124 to €208 than it is to move from €188 to €208.

Op, in your case, as mp22 and eastbono have indicated, the net family income for you and the wife will remain the same. It is just that the money will be chanelled into the house in a different way. Plus, your wife will be on the jobhunt pre-course post-course, so hopefully that goes well and you can progress your situation. Are you enjoying Tus at the moment? Hearing good things. It is a good platform. Best of luck with the rest. An investment in your education is the best investment you can make I believe, so fair play to the wife for this.

    * I think €208 is the figure. Something like €208 anyway.

The OP's income from TÚS would be reduced to €208 as his wife would be claiming Jobseeker's Allowance (JA) in her own right.

The OP's income from TÚS will be assessed as income if the OP's wife applies for Jobseeker's Allowance with a disregard of €20 per day (up to a maximum of €60) and 60% of the balance assessed as means.

    Wife's JA Means Assessment:
    €208 - €60 = €148 x 60% = €88.80, rounded up to €89 means per week. The maximum pay for the wife and her husband is €188 + €124.80 = €312.80 per week.

    €312.80 less means of €89 = €223.80 per week.

The total weekly income would be €430.80.
