No lights on. Dead as a dodo. The sockets are fine; I checked the fuse box and everyone is home and working. When I unplugged the machine to move it to the adjoining socket) ( twin sockets in the utility) looked like an old plug; can see the fuse though a gap. Kettle works fine on that socket. The machine was " new" four years ago when I came here ( rental) but that does not mean it was NEW. Dont want to call the landlord if it is something simple.. Help! Have not tried changing the plug yet...

Did you change the fuse within the plug itself with another 13 amp fuse?

That is on the agenda; thanks. No spare fuses so that will have to wait until I am next out. ...gives me hope that there is absolutely no power getting to the machine. I thought most modern machines had moulded plugs but this one doesnt.. rural makeshift probably.

Try swapping the fuse with the one in the kettle.

Did it with the fuse from the dehumidifier and no joy; the old fuse works fine in the dehumidifer. Just no power getting to the machine. No lights etc. Door works fine too. Dead....any ideas welcome.. thanks.. looking on done deal in case I have to find a new one....It is a zanussi by the way. Probably new 3 1/2 years ago and I am not a heavy user; maybe one load a week or less.,

Was the fuse the same rating as the washing machine, you may have put in a 3A fuse to replace a 13A one and blown it!
Swap the fuses back and check that the dehumidifier still works.

If the fuse is good, it may be worth calling someone out to have a look if you believe that the machine is worth repairing. It could be something as simple as a loose wire inside.

Yep 13 amp and the one from the washing machine works in the dehumidifier.. will have to wait until Monday now... Call out charge here are high and am in a rental; I have authority to deal with repairs but not sure how far I can go. read something re a switch inside the lid? Very unwell so off to bed; my sincere thanks for your expertise ....new machines apparently start around E200 which amazed me.

if you have a good fuse fitted and can see no signs of damage to the mains lead the most likely culprit is the pcb especially if there are no neon lights on switch on

it could still be someting easy like the cable or the power switch - but yeah by an installer it could be a lot for the pcb - hundreds if you get the wrong guy - if its only a short time you need it consider the free sections of gumtree etc. could get lucky.

    “Roll it back”

Thanks. Looking; amazed that you can get new for around E200.

    Slight exaggeration there :D

OP you need to find out if power is actually getting to the machine which unfortunately for you is not going to be straight forward unless you happen to be electrically competent and have a meter on you. I assume you aren't/don't.

have you tried plugging into a different socket may be an issue with the socket/circuit?

I now see you have. Call your landlord and ask him to arrange someone to look at it or replace it. Allow a reasonable time scale for this to happen, as in not today.

Call your landlord. It's his responsibility to supply a new machine or an electrician to fix it.

I have had to get the washing machine and the dishwasher replaced in the 2 years I've been living here.

Thanks everyone.. Cannot deal with this just now with the hassle re my car/ insurance etc and not being at all well; he is not an easy man to deal with at the best of times..Not really a hardship to be without for a while. Thanks again!
