I'm not one for conspiracy theories at all but I've just been reading about this and it's really caught my attention. Now, it could be all a coincidence...or there could actually be something behind it. I'd be interested to hear opinions on it.

Basically, an activist in Fresno California had been documenting harassment he had suffered at the hands of the Fresno pd.
He had started speaking out against the police and some of their dodgy practices and then he started to notice people following him all the time.
He became convinced they were planning on setting him up for a crime (child pornography) and he said the entered his home and accessed his computer.
As time went on, the harassment got worse and he saw surveillance vans parked outside his home.
He documented a lot of this on his blog here:

Then recently, he started telling people that he was convinced they were going to kill him.
He went as far as sending an open letter to the FBI, which you can read on his site.

He then posted on his Facebook page that he felt they would try to kill him soon. And he also posted a video of a surveillance van outside his home.

He also sent this message to a local news reporter:
“Corin, you want some news? Corrupt Fresno cops are going to try and kill me this weekend, possibly tonight. This is no joke.”

A couple of days after he sent this message, neighbours reported smoke coming from Langs house and they called the fire department. When they showed up and put out the fire, John Lang was found stabbed to death inside the house.

Pretty chilling stuff considering he documented the whole thing and predicted he would be murdered soon.

I don't know, it seems unlikely, I haven't had time to go through his site but it seems unlikely they were signing out all this equipment and setting up all these surveillance operations just to harass a guy. All these surveillance operations would be on the record in the police department (if they happened), they wouldn't be able to spend tens of thousands of dollars of police funds without giving a good reason for it.

Maybe it's another case of a handful of cops abusing their power to frame someone they don't like and it's gotten out of hand like the Avery case. Or, more likely this guy is highly paranoid, maybe he did have a run in with police and started imagining things after that. Maybe he's own counter surveillance got him the attention of someone else up to no good on his street.

Of course after Avery I wouldn't put anything past small town US police. Population of Fresno is 500,000, would that be small town by American standards?
