Ive seen the prices vary greatly for this procedure, could anyone tell me if some bonding materials are better quality than others, or is the material used by different dentists always much the same, just some practices charge higher fees for the work?

Yes materials and techniques can differ. Also the larger the filling the more clinical time it takes to put in so composite (white) fillings on back teeth cost more than in front.

The price range shows the market is functioning correctly and that prices are not set to reduce competition.

Thank you, so are you basically saying that one dentist doing composite bonding for half the price of another, is probably using cheap material and bad technique? What way does the composite material vary in quality do you know? Im interested to find out if different types of composites are more stain resistant than others.

No, composite materials can vary in price but there are many other, more important variables such as running costs. One dentist might charge €100 while another charges €70 for the same filling but the net amount earned might be the same for both if the running costs are higher in the more expensive clinic.

The best thing to do is ask a friend/colleague if they have had white fillings and if they are happy with them, then go there.

Two painters using the same paints will get different results, the better painter will generally be able to charge more, there are a number of factors as Davo points out. The skill, attention to detail and time spent by the dentist is the number one factor in a good result. Generally the cheapest dentist will not get the best results as with anything in life, there may be exceptions but generally the rule hold true.

49% of dentists are below average. Get a impartial recommendation and go there. Choose a dentist based on low costs and you will find that dentist cares mostly about keeping their costs low also.
