Have a car....engine seized because of a known fault on these models.

Balance shaft which leaves no oil pressure and starves engine of oil.

Checked with VIN Chasis number with local dealer shows this was not recalled for the fault.

Car originated in NI...sold to a guy in UK and I bought it and brought it here.

How to proceed?? I just want advice and do not expect a definitive solution.

I understand it is peoples opinion and that is it!!

Appreciate "What I would do if it was me"

    Thanks guys.

I assume you are talking about a tdi vw / audi.
    What age is the car?

    yes...11 years old.....

I think at that age no hope. If you got it serviced all its life at a VW dealer they would perhaps do something out of goodwill like maybe free labour but at 11 years old that too is unlikely.

Thanks for those quick replies.....sounds like I have two chances...

    slim chance and no chance....

Was there ever a recall for it though?
I thought their position on this was "weren't ya lucky to have one at all don't be making a show of yourself now asking us to take responsibility for terrible engineering"

Well, you can try, even if your chances are slim. All they can say is no.

For something that was allegedly covered by a recall there are still a lot of time bombs out there and a lot of people getting caught!

I dont think VWs/Audis were recalled for the oil pump/drive/tensioner issues.
If they were everyone would have had them done .

I dont want knock the op but did an oil pressure light come on at all. If it did switch off the engine and the engine wont seize, . Keep driving with a warning light on and the engine will seize.
I had a oil light come on at one stage in the golf. at 70mph i switched off the engine. Luckily it was only an oil level light

I don't think they were recalled in ireland at all. If they were it was a worse attempt than bmws x20d "quality assurance program" haha
