Holiday destination recommendation

    Hey all,

The girlfriend has left it up to me to arrange our holiday this year!

I'm looking for some recommendations on possible destinations to go. For the last three years we have gone away for 7 - 10 days and spent all that time lying by the pool, going down to the beach, and going out for a meal & drinks in the evening. While that doesn't sound exciting it is very relaxing - Which is exactly what we want.

The first time we went away we decided on Lanzarote and we absolutely adored the place. So much so we went back last summer. The second year we went to Albufeira, Portugal and did not like it at all. Partly because our accommodation was in a bad spot - Right at the top of the strip so it was noisy 24/7. On top of that there was way too many stag / hen parties so we found it difficult to relax. It was also probably 90% English accents.

So I'm looking for somewhere similar to Lanzarote.. Easily accessible beach, relaxed environment, plenty of places to eat and drink, and most importantly (for her) lots of sun. If anyone has any recommendations I'd appreciate it.

Two 24 year olds looking to go somewhere in June.

Edit: Also ideally travelling from Cork, and not too much of a distance from the airport. I do not like travelling.

Tenerife - we are going back this year to Costa Adeje. It's up the coast from Playa de las Americas but you could walk along the prom between both towns. Adeje has nice accommodation and restaurants and a few bars. So you would have the peace during the day by the pool or beach, can sleep at night and if you want the lively night life (cos ye're only young ones!!) you haven't far to get to PDLA. Weather is nice that time of year, warm but not unbearable.

Tenerife looks decent actually. Direct flights from Cork is a bonus. Will look into that a bit more, thanks!

You should give Albufeira another chance! How about Malta? Plenty to see and do, or just lazing on the beach.

This too. We went to Albufeira last year and stayed in New Town, just between the strip and the beach. I wouldn't go back to where we stayed again, if I was going back there I would stay in the Old Town. Better atmosphere at night-time

have a look at Gran Canaria - we love Maspalomas/Melonares area. Lovely beach and lots of upmarket bars and restaurants. Its about 10E in a taxi into Playa D'Ingles if you want a bit of madness - we gave that up long ago :)
Last time we were there we stayed at the Green Golf Bugnalows who run a shuttle to the beach and a short taxi into Melonares.

We just booked a holiday in sharm el sheikh. 3 Adults in a very plush hotel, right at the beach.

I know everyone is afraid to go there at the moment, i guess that why it was so cheap. Travel companies dont have the demand to meet what they bought. But ive travelled to so called hotspots before and its perfectly fine. Think about it logically. I remember a time when i have relatives who thought they were going to get blown up if they came to ireland.

3 Adults for €240 pps 14 nights in July. We couldnt find anywhere else even near that price. Flying via UK though.

I love Albufeira and the algarve in general, been there 4 times.

Malta is lovely as is Tenerife & Sardinia. We are going to Santorini this year but its two flights which you might not like. From Dublin too.

booked near hurghada in Egypt. We usually go to Fuerteventura which we love, but egypt is half the price at the moment to the canaries so makes it a very good deal which we couldn't pass up.

Kusadasi Turkey, went there in 2013 and 2014 with the girlfriend, exactly what you describe! hotel with swimming pool and plenty of loungers albeit high 30's so if you dont like it that hot dont go ( we love it ). I'm sure you can travel from Cork or Dublin to Izmir you'll have to look that up. If you want PM me about it, hotel close to beach, 10minute bus journey to centre of kusadasi for €2. Went to Tenerife in 2015 and never again, back to Turkey we go this year :)

Also the food is extremely cheap over there! 2x starter, 2x mains (steak) and 1 pint 1 cocktail under €30! hows that for value!

    Hi
I have read your post. I would suggest Malaga as a place to go as its only a 2/12 hr flight with either Aer Lingus or Ryanair and it is also a great city. There is lots to do there and if ye are interested in sightseeing there is lots to chose from. There is Malaga Cathedral Malaga Castle The Picasso Museum and if youre interested in cars there is also Malaga Auto Museum as well as lots of museums and art galleries. There is lots of bars and restaurants there and it has a good nightlife and it is also very reasonable. You can get a bus straight from the airport to the city for just a few euro and the same when coming home.

Wasn't there just a terrorist attack in Hurghada earlier in January?

are you restricted to spain/canaries etc? would you consider anywhere else? or is it down to budget?

For me my best hols where.

10 days in North Sardinia (cost smeralda) you need to hire a car.
10 days in Kefalonia, hire a jeep and just enjoy. (best holiday ever almost)
14 days in Thailand, Peace resport Kho samui (unreal).

if you've a bit of cash it may be better to consider farther afield.
If you're set on it, then try Mogan in the canaries, really nice.
it's 10 mins from Puerto Rico.

nope. couple of drunk locals wielding a knife and attacking a pair of tourists sitting having a drink in a terrace.

Obviously not a very nice thing to have happened but very weird incident and thankfully very rare.

She's working part-time so her money is tight. Figured Canaries are somewhat cheaper than most places but other than that no real reason for choosing there specifically.

What about Crete - you can fly Ryanair into Chania, there are lots of resorts to the east and west to choose from. Have a look at www.greeka.com

Or Corfu - you can fly direct with Aerlingus. Plenty of nice resorts to pick from. The west coast has sandy beaches, the east is more pebbly. Maybe avoid Kavos in the far south, unless you want hectic partying. Check out www.agni.gr for resort descriptions. If you do pick Corfu, visit Corfu town some evening (some resorts do boat trips otherwise a bus will get you there). It's a lovely town.
