Best general purpose new MTB for €350?

    Hi all,

    I've a budget of €350 to buy a new MTB for general leisure use i.e. a combination of cycle paths, country roads, forest trails and the like. No long distance road cycling (max 50km in a day on holiday) and no major off roading in mud or anything like that.

    I know I can probably get a better quality bike 2nd hand but I got burned on a bike I bought last year and don't want a repeat so I'm only interested in new.

    The two I'm looking at (I'd like disc brakes) are:-

    - The Carrera Vengeance Mens Mountain Bike 2015 from Halfords reduced from €539 to €319 (Probably always reduced to mid €300??) - http://www.halfords.ie/cycling/bikes/mountain-bikes/carrera-vengeance-mens-mountain-bike-2015

    Both look very similar in terms of spec and looks etc.

    For €8 I'm leaning towards getting it from my local Halfords who can assemble it and do a 6 week service FOC whereas with Decathlon I'll have to assemble it myself. I know it's not a big deal to assemble but if there's a problem Halfords are only 10 minutes away.

    Appreciate any thoughts good or bad.
