Clueless but want an alarm

    Hi all,

So I've just moved in to my first (owned) property and I'd like to get a security alarm.

I'm tempted to get Phonewatch (€499 for alarm and installation under January offer) €37 per month for monitoring thereafter. This is largely because this is what my parents have and I'm used to it and I don't know anything about alarms really. It also includes smoke and carbon monoxide alarms that are also monitored.

Could anyone recommend something that might be better for the same/less money?

    Thanks!

Take a read around the forum before committing to PW. There are plenty of reasons to shop around and look elsewhere.
The main things you need to know are.......
This is a locked down system , no one else can monitor or even maintain this system. No one else can source parts etc. So you are tying yourself to one provider. No competition generally means one thing for pricing...
This systems main form of detection is PiRs (Motion sensors inside the house). This means your alarm will only activate after someone has broken into your house. Most good systems use perimeter to detect an attempted break in thus giving a much earlier warning before the damage is done.
The use of the app etc is tied to the monitoring contract. If you cancel monitoring this will not work with a standalone alarm.

I wouldn't think the Phone Watch offer is much of an "offer" considering what they are selling.

Poor quality alarm system installed for €500, then €500/year there after.

Don't believe one word of their marketing that its the highest grade system that money can buy etc...

Any reputable alarm company could give you a quotation on an alarm system, many these days have free apps which you can access your alarm over the internet. Normally one of these alarms would cost in around €700-€1000, so much the same as what Phone watch are charging for 1 year.

Get 3 quotes for alarms, come back here with the spec of each alarm system and the guys here will tell you if its a good/bad deal.

BTW, I don't sell alarms and have no real connection with the industry.
