How would one go about answering these questions, really weird style questions, from 2004 and back.

    2004
A Explain how the Empowerment of Workers and Total Quality Management have changed the role of managers. (20 marks)

    1. Business costs and /B]

For part c, business costs, do I go about this or do I use reduces costs and increased costs as 2 headings and 2 points under each. Or separately as I have done.

    [B]Increased costs

    Investment in technology
    • The capital investment involved in the purchase of new technology is often high.
    • Firms are required to meet this investment in a highly competitive environment in order to ensure efficiency and profitability
    • In addition to the purchase of new technology, there are additional costs such as installation and maintain charges

    Training costs
    • The cost of training and retraining may also be high
    • Training regarding the operations of new technology, must be ongoing and kept up to date
    • Whether training in house of by sending workers on courses, this training costs a lot of money.

    Reduced Costs
Reduced wage bill for the business
    • Fewer workers are needed because machines and technology now do the jobs that employees once did.
    • For example EDI means that a business no longer needs workers to process basic stock purchasing and invoicing. This leads to reduced wage bill for the business.

    Better quality goods
    • Cam uses computers to monitor the tools and machines used in the factory and to make any adjustments needed to ensure perfect products are made.
    • This reduces the money the business spends on giving refunds and repairing faulty products.

    00.5
A Explain the changing role of a manager from controller to facilitator. Refer to areas such as the
Empowerment of workers and Total Quality management in your answer (25 marks)

Again, no idea how to go about answering it.
