Focus 2002 Saloon Door Mechanism Problem

    Hi all,

Had a problem with the 2002 focus saloon where the passengers door wouldn't open from the outside. Got a second hand mechanism (complete) and fitted it and it worked like a dream.

However I experienced a problem with the central locking since installing. I will go into that below.

I thought the unit was bad, the one I got, so I managed to fix the old unit, the bad was adjusted wrong and pop it back in to see if it would work. Hurray! It was working again, however the same central locking issue seems to be occuring.

Basically whats happening is the door opens fine from the outside unless I lock the car. When I lock the car (either manually or from the remote), the car locks fine (including the passenger door). But if I unlock the car all doors unlock, except the passenger door.

Now the lock button operates on the passenger door when I lock and unlock the doors, so the electrical current is getting to the mechanism. I also dont think the issue is with the motor for the central locking as like I said the door locks, just wont open from the outside and this is the same on both units.

However if I then open the door using the inside handle, it works fine from the outside again, its strange.

I have tried resetting the central locking, turning the key in the dash 4 times till the chime then holding the lock button till the chime again, and also disconnecting the battery for 5 mins and then starting the car for 5 mins and then manually locking the door. Both haven't worked.

I'm really confused at this stage, any thoughts guys?

Possibly a mechanical issue with the actuator itself. Maybe pop door card off and give a little spray with some oil?
The actuator could also be on its way out. Try the oil first though.

I thought that myself but it was never an issue with the old mechanism and its only since I fit the new one it didn't work on that one, so reverted back to the old mechanism and its no longer working on that one.

But yeah, I'm going to take it back out tomorrow and give it a bitta oil to see if it fixes it.

You don't have to take the doorcard off to oil it if it isn't too bad. Just remove the screw closest to the car on the door latch. Get some spray oil and with the straw attached spray oil into the area where the screw was removed from. The oil should run down into the lock and free it out.
