Refresh Win 8.1 on preinstalled W 8

My Acer E1-571. Win 8.1. is not well. First symptoms were a sluggish touch pad. I reinstalled the Synapics driver and all was well. Now days later I'm getting browser freeze and have to use a USB mouse as the touch pad is sporadicly not functioning. Malware bites and Defender read clean. I checked logs and found a run dll error; ran SFC & unspecified error detected. Otherwise the laptop is working and responsive.

And down the line, if I choose to "Refresh" the OS, will I revert to factory system installed Win 8 or the current Win 8.1?
    thoughts welcome

It's just a refresh factory default configuration so no. The only way it will reinstall Windows 8 is if there's a recovery partition saved and you chose this option.

Thanks for that. Thing is as it came with Win 8 OEM, the " factory default configuration" sounds just what I want to avoid!
