    Hi folks,

Long story short we haven't flown since 2008 as we ferry to France each year for holidays..

We're heading long haul to China soon, 2 adults 2 kids and I forget many of the smaller details..

We plan to use our own headphones on the way but I can't seem to find information on exactly can I use regular 3.5mm headphones or will I need a few adaptors.. long haul flights are with BA on 777

    Any information appreciated..

Not usually, the connections tend to be double pins and normal headphones don't work. Well in my experience anyway.

I flew on a BA 747 last year and we were able to use our own headphones with 3.5mm jacks. No adapter needed

Most of the airlines have either a 2 or 3 pin jack system for their inflight entertainment systems. The last time i flew longhaul with BA, I used my own headphones with a single jack. it wasn't the best solution but it worked

You can get the 2 pin adapter in places like Maplin etc. Very cheap. I keep one with my headphones when travelling.

I though you were given headphones on flights, especially long haul.

Bring your own in carry on if you really want to use them though.

You can find out whats on that particular plane probably through their website. Adaptors are easy to pick up at airport.

Get noise cancelling headphones - best investment for travel on buses trains or airplanes you can make, the bose ones come with a 3.5 to doublepin adapter.

The last long haul flight I took had free headphones. They had a detachable adapter so I could plug out the crappy airline ones and plug my own ones into the adapter. But I can't remember if that's the same with any other long haul flights I took. Seatguru might be helpful here.

Most of the newer planes have standard headphone jacks. You can pickup the double connection adapators on ebay...

I don't think the non standard jack has much to do with it being a new plane, but as a disincentive for passengers not to steal the supplied headphones. For example Etihad invests a lot of money in their headsets even in economy and don't want to see them walk out the door at the end of each flight.

I regularly fly with my Bose headphones and the double adapter works with all major airlines I've flown. I fly alot.
