    Hi all,

I'm in the final stages of a new build and expect to have someone on site this week with a machine to do a bit of ground works.
I'm planning on running power cables from the house to the gate (about 30m). The telephone line run by on the road close to the gate. Should I put a duct in so Eir or whoever can run their services through there? If so, what size/depth should I aim for?

I spent 30 mins on the phone to Eir yesterday trying to find this out. I kept being transferred from one person to the next with no answer so that's why I'm asking here. I've initiated the new line connection with them but it will be a week before they get back to me and probably another couple of weeks before I can actually get talking to one of their engineers. I just don't want to miss the boat when the machine is on site and was hoping to get some insights from people here that may have gone through this recently.

    Thanks..

Just use the 50mm esb ducting everywhere. Make sure you put a rope through!

Yep I agree, use a 50mm ESB red duct or 50mm black duct. Just make sure you lay it in the ground minimum 600mm below finished ground level.

I did one trench for my water service, ESB and Eircom services. I kept 300mm between each service and laid mine 800-900mm deep, on a bed of sand and then backfilled it all with sand to about 150mm on top and then laid marker tapes above each one.

Just make sure to take photo's and measurement from boundary line or something permanent so you always remember where everything is in years to come.
