    Hi all,

I archived an 11gb PST file a few months ago so I'd have access to old emails and attacments but today when I opened the PST file in MS Outlook all the attachments seem to have a ".htm" added to the end of them and their size is reduced to 3kb e.g. a MS Word file I'd have received called contractXYZ.docx is displaying as an attachment called cantractXYZ.docx.htm which I can't open.

Any ideas what's going on and more importantly how I can access all the attachments I thought I'd archived

Is this in a corporate environment? It sounds like you might have Enterprise Vault or some other similar archiving solution.

It's been a while since I used EV, but if my memory serves me correctly - it stores the email / attachment up on a server and converts the email / attachment to a link to that file on the server and stores that link in your mailbox / PST.

So, if you moved those kind of email to a PST, they will work in the office, but not out of the office unless you are connected via a VPN.

(of course, this could be something completely different, in which case you can ignore my barely coherent ramblings)

I think you're spot on and unfortunately I no longer have access to the corporate server :(

Interestingly any files which were attached to inbound emails as RAR folders are still available but all individual files have, as you pointed out, been replaced with links to the document on the corporate server I no longer have access to.

Have you tried ScanPST.exe on inaccessible PST file ?

It is an inbuilt package of MS Outlook. Kindly share some details like Office version, reported error and OS. Then, i would able to provide adequate troubleshooting tips.

    Regards,
    Jane

    Hi Jane,

Got the issue resolved by getting access to the server so I have all the attachments I need but thanks for the offer.
