Strange boiler behaviour

My heating system is acting strangely today. My upstairs radiators are on a separate loop and we're turned off today. However I noticed one radiator was piping hot. None of the others were even warm.

I checked the control panel and all the heating loops (upstairs, downstairs, water) were off. However I heard a hum from the nearby pump and it seemed to be on.

I went out and check the boiler itself. The water pump was humming and really hot. After some time the boiler kicked on all by itself.

I turned the whole thing off until I can get someone to look at it I don't want it to burn through all the oil or damage itself.

sounds like you may have a faulty frost stat

just reading your post again if it was a faulty frost stat you would have a permanent live so turning it off should not be possible

Sounds like a dodgy frost stat or motorised valve on maybe the hot water circuit
