Just bought one in Aldi and now have no idea what to do with it.
How do I know if it's ripe and how do I eat it?

I have no special knowledge of them, but I have bought them a handful of times. If they are very firm (hard) when you squeeze them, I think they are not ready to eat. If they seem soft, I think they are over-ripe. In between there is a stage where there is "a bit of give".

I rinse them, cut them up, and eat everything but the stem. They have a pleasant, slightly tangy flavour. Not that special, but enjoyable as something different. They would make a good addition to a fresh fruit salad.
