Hi, wonder of anyone could offer any advise.

I have a 2005 ford fiesta, it's currently in my local garage getting a service, but the mechanic went to change the brake pads today but couldn't find the lock but key that was in the glove box.

He was unable to find it , I couldn't find it anywhere so I presume it's lost now! The mechanic said he is unable to get the wheels off!

Has anyone any advise or experience of this, I contacted a ford garage but they were no help!

I'm totally lost as to what it where to go with it now especially with the mechanics not knowing either!

I would appreciate any advise anyone could give me.

    Thanks.

First of get rid of the lock nuts...... They are a complete pain in the face.

Get into macguard in Germany explaining the situation. They will need proof of ownership and I'd and photo showing lock nut profile.

Cost me €36 for new lock nut from them. Had it in 3 days. Job done.

Bring it to a tyre fitting place, they'll be able to remove them and give you 4 normal ones. Should be cheap too.

Worst case scenario, weld normal nuts onto the lock nuts and remove that way.

Post a pick of the nut and maybe someone will recognise it, and even have the unlocker you need.

    Tyre place is best bet.
AA might be another if you have breakdown service.

Do not buy a new lock nut key...

Most tyre places should have a special tool that fits over the bolt and cuts into it for grip as it removes it.

I had to get it done before on my car, and got normal bolts to replace and very little cost

Go to a ford dealer, they should have a master set, ask them to remove them and then buy 4 ordinary nuts .

Use that to remove the lock nuts, then bin them. Buy replacement nuts first.

    Thanks for all the replies.

I am with the AA, so I might ring them and see if they can be of any assistance, if not I will try a tyre garage.

I think il stay clear of trying to do a DIY job on it myself, not great at that sort of stuff il end up causing all sorts damage!

Hopefully get it sorted , and I won't be using them anymore on any a car going forward.

I tried this before when my wife "threw out that old nut in the car"... didn't work... brought it to a tyre dealer who use their specialist tool to remove them... never needed them again...

I've had to do this before. I got another nut that was a small bit bigger (but not big enough to slip onto it). I walloped this on with a hammer, and then removed it as normal via the other nut. Did this for 4 tyres. Be prepared to potentially loose the "extra nut" x 4.

Just quick update , I got the AA out and they sorted it out for me.

Thanks for all the help and advice with it, the lock nuts are in the bin :)

Bit after the event for the OP, but my McGard lock nut key broke a few months ago (I was checking that they were tight after a puncture repair). A nearby Ford garage quoted me 46 euro to sort it. I decided to try emailing McGard instead, and they replied very promptly, stating that they would send a replacement free of charge if I posted the damaged lock nut key to them, along with emailing them pictures of my licence, vehicle reg cert and the lock nut. Emailed the pictures on a Tuesday afternoon, the replacement arrived the following Thursday. They quoted me 18 euro for a spare key, but it was as easy to buy 4 regular nuts.
