    Hey all.

If you're anything like me you spend a lot of time fretting over the fact that the perfect album is out there...and you'll just never know about it.

I do a fair bit of random trawling about for new music but don't have a lot of luck. Love a lot of different types of music but i'm on a big metal run at the moment and am looking for some recommendations.

I'm gonna list a few albums i absolutely LOVE. To me these are god damn near perfect and most metalheads should have them in their collections. If you look at one and think "well if he likes THAT then he'd really be into ______" then drop me a suggestion below.

I've read through a bunch of threads and from the sigs and topics i'd say you'll have some ideas for me (Gojira fans holler at me).

Now, here's whats been blasting in my earphones regularly:

At The Gates - Slaughter of Soul

    Cynic - Traced in Air

Dissection - Storm of the Lights Bane

Gojira - The Way of all Flesh

The Haunted - The Haunted Made me do It

Opeth - everything from Orchid to Ghost Reveries

Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power

    Tool - Lateralus

    Appreciate any assistance, folks.

Looks like they've got a load, but i've got Symbolic playing now and drums/guitar are awesome.

    Great suggestion, cheers.

Only 7 studio albums, you won't have much to buy..

How about Dawn - Slaughter Sun?

I'd also recommend House of Atreus.

Also seeing as you like Dissection, why don't you try these albums as well

Lord Belial - Enter the Moonlight Gate

Abyssos - Together We Summon the Dark, Fhinsthanian Nightbreed

    Naglfar - Diabolical

Sacramentum's - Far Away From The Sun

and, i also think you might like Weakling - Dead as Dreams

it's nothing like Dissection, just quality black metal, with epic riffing, and some progressive rock tendencies included in the chaos for good measure.

Spent most of yesterday evening listening to Death playlists, definitely picking up at least 2 of those 7 (Symbolic and Leprosy maybe?).

This sounds right up my alley, will report back.

So, Dawn - Slaughtersun is great, thats going straight in the basket. Did remind me of a cross between early At The Gates and Dissection!

House of Atreus - wasn't sure at the start but the solos won me over pretty quickly. Can't see anything on Itunes so that'll need to be scrounged out somewhere else i think.

Lord Belial - was ready to write off Enter the Moonlight Gate, not really in the mood for that looser production/messier sound at the moment but let it play for 15 minutes and got a real Emperor vibe off it. Seems like a classic, will revisit.

Abyssos didn't really do it for me; nothing wrong with it but not scratching the current itch. Same for Naglfar. Sacramentum seems that bit more melodic so i'm gonna stick with it for a bit, some great riffs and breakdowns i can't ignore. Even while typing that i've been nodding my head along to them.

Struggling to get on board with the vocals in Weakling.

    Still, appreciate the suggestions Nacho!

I should have mentioned Weakling's vocals are hard to like. I have the same problem with Shining, quality music but the vocals i just can't warm to.
Glad you like some of the bands anyway.
Have you heard of Tribulation and Mgla? I recently discovered these two. Tribulation started out as a typical Swedish death metal band inspired by Entombed , but now play death metal mixed with progressive rock. Mgla play melodic black metal, but do it very well.

check out: Tribulation - The Children of the Night
    Mgla- Exercises in Futility

Seeing as you like Tool and Opeth, two bands not exactly known for the brevity of their songs, I'd suggest giving Ahab a listen to. There's a few of us on here that would be fans of the band, they've got four albums out (Call of the Wretched Sea, The Divinity of Oceans, The Giant, and The Boats of the Glen Carrig), and all of them are very good in my view. They are a doom/funeral doom band, so I'm not sure if that's your bag.

I used to be more into doom when i was younger but still never got much further into it than a handful of My Dying Bride albums and early Anathema stuff. Still, my tastes have changed a fair bit so i'll check it out. Cheers, Angron.

And Nacho i'll be sure to hunt down some Tribulation and Mgla tonight, nice one.

Tribulation seems like a winner - guitars remind me of My Arms Your Hearse era Opeth, just that bit of an evil sound that brings a smile to my face. Onto the Itunes wishlist.

Mgla sounds like SERIOUS business, only had it on for about 30 minutes so far but it's another definite buy. Like a storm of noise and glorious headbanging riffs. Ordered from their website.

Angron, i gave Ahab a shot but it appears i don't have the ear for doom any more unfortunately. Did enjoy the thoroughly metal album covers though.
