GUI number when moving clubs

    Hi all,

I'm moving club. On golfnet I still log in using the GUI number I received when I joined my old club and I've successfully completed the club transfer process on Golfnet but instead of my GUI number transferring to my new club I received a new GUI number from my new club which apparently I use for reserving tee times on the BRS system.

Is this the norm? Do I have to maintain a "Golfnet" GUI number and a separate number for use with my new clubs booking system?

Which of the two numbers do I use if I'm playing an open somewhere?

    Confused dot com

Use the new Gui number and card you go. You will probably have to activate it on Golfnet as well.

what happens when you join a second golf club?
Do you just keep your old GUI number or do you end up with two?

You will get a second Gui no and card for that club. You use the gui card of the club responsible for your handicap for entering competitions.

If you're a member of more than one club, you still only have one GUI number/card, that number/card refers to your home club for handicap purposes only.

    Just went through this today.

You have to set up a new account on Golfnet with the new number you got from your new club.

If you have any questions support@golfnet.ie is the way to go. I got sorted in jig time so I'm up and running with my new GUI number with my old handicap info etc transferred from the old club to my new club.

I remember someone telling me that the first 4 digits on the GUI card is your home club identification and the last 4 digits are your membership number within that club.

So if you move home club, it is very likely you get a new number.

    No, that's is wrong.
You only need to join the GUI once. I doubled checked with the GUI before I joined my second club, as the second club did want to charge me GUI fee.

Give your second club your existing GUI number. They may issue you with a club specific number for logging onto their BRS system, which Castleknock did for me in year one, but since then, I just use my original GUI number to log in.

No second card/fee (or number really) required.

I'm afraid I have to disagree. I went through this process yesterday and emailed Golfnet the very same question i.e. why can't I keep my original GUI # and just move it to the new club and the answer I got was

"Regarding the re-registering on Golfnet, unfortunately that is the process that members are required to complete if they change golf clubs. If you have any further queries about this please contact support@golfnet.ie"

so I did contact Golfnet support who requested my old GUI #, my new GUI # and the date of transfer and they took care of it from there.

FYI I was unable to do the new registration on the Golfnet website myself as you can't use the same email address for a new application if it's already been used for a prior application hence support had to manually intervene and do it for me.

I now have a new GUI # which I can log into Golfnet with (all my handicap records have been transferred over and my new club is showing as my registered home club etc) and I use the same new number for BRS reservations on my new clubs website.

    Ok. I believe you... but.

Re-read the original question you quoted in your earlier post. it was asking specifically about a second club.
you appear to have changed clubs :D

In my original post I started off by saying "I'm moving club." I never mentioned a "second club" or indicated I'd continue to be a member of my old club at all and my experience and the process I had to go through relates to moving club.

You are correct that I mis read Irish Coldplayers post. I read it as him moving club whereas it actually says joining a second club.

I guess if the first club remains his home course he will keep his original GUI # but if he transfers his home course to the second club will the original GUI # transfer to the new club or will he have to do what I did and re-register with a new GUI #? From what you're saying I guess he won't. It seems you only have to do the full re-registration if you are transferring lock stock and barrel to a new club.

I bet that's cleared it up for everyone :o

Every club you join you get a new GUI number. If u are a member of 6 clubs you will have a GUI number for each.

So are you paying 6 GUI subs then?

No Mike, just no. If you are a member of more than one club at the same time you will have one GUI card, that card will be issued by your home club, your home club will be determined by where you play the most golf, e.g. you are a member of 2 clubs in 2015 lets call them A & B, you join a new club in 2016 (Club C) in addition to your previous 2 clubs, now say in 2015 Club A was your designated home club(because you played most qualifying rounds there), now you play 30 rounds of golf in 2016, 10 of those at Club A, 5 at club B and the remaining 15 at your new Club C, in 2017 your new home club will be Club C, and in that case you will be issued with a new GUI number and card, you will then disregard/destroy any previous GUI cards you have owned.

I know it's slightly complicated, but essentially all you need to know is that you are only ever in possession of one valid GUI number at any given time.

What happens if your GUI card is also your bar/clubhouse card for clubs B & C and therefore are necessary??

Not sure what happens there exactly, but I presume your club can issue you a card (other than a GUI affiliated one)to use for those purposes and instead of a GUI number on the card it will have a unique club member number only.
