    Hi all,

I'm getting a new car this week and I'm going to give my old car to my wife and in turn I will sell her old car, I was wondering if anyone could advice the best way to do this, my thoughts are:

Notify insurance company of change of car for both of us. Both policies are with Aviva.
Send log book for my car with change of ownership details.
Once her car is sold send on the log book.

My fear with the above is her current car will be uninsured while we try to sell it.

Park up your old car until your wife sells hers. then she transfers insurance.

No need to change the owner on the logbook of your current car to give it to her.

Then his old car wont be insured. Catch 22

She's named on my policy and vice-versa. I'm going to transfer my insurance to my new car, this will leave my car uninsured unless I transfer her insurance over to it. There's more of a chance of selling it if I get her to use my car as I'll be able to get it cleaned, 2 small kids can make a back seat a bit grubby.

only alternative to taking out a third policy would be to sell her car before you buy your new one.

Is there an issue with Insurance ? I mean ive had a car sitting for 1 Month with no insurance before i sold it.

Just keep it secure, people get all panicky. What did the planet ever do without insurance .....

OP change the ownership on the logbook to herself have her transfer her insurance. Move your insurance to new car.

Sell the car. Thieves dont suddenly appear out of nowhere hearing that youve phoned Axa

I'm not worried about theft, I'm more worried about someone driving it without insurance and something happening (accident or checkpoint)

BTW having your wife named on your insurance and vice versa is a good idea. It actually lowers the premium because the insurance company adopts the idea that you trust the other person to drive your car, peculiar I know.

Yeah, always have a lady in the policy, when she only had a provisional license I had her on the policy and it led to a discount.

I rang 123 this morning to enquire if changing ownership of my to car to the wife would affect my policy.

It doesn't. They make the assumption that the car your policy is on is owned by you or your spouse.

The premium is lower as the risk is spread, e.g. feeling tired, there's the other half beside you and they can take over for a while, out for a few scoops, then there can be a designated driver etc.
