Amateur drama groups?

    Hi there,

i did amateur drama in the past and I'm looking to get back into it as a social outlet. I'm not trying to be a professional actor, i just enjoyed acting for fun in the past. Is there any amateur drama group in south dublin that might facilitate me? i did some research and they seem a bit private, the only time you can take part is in a production that you have to audition for. I'm looking to do drama through a workshop that doesn't necessarily force you do commit to auditioning for a play straight away. In the past i went to no drama theatre in the city centre but i work in Carrickmines and was hoping for something a little closer to there. I know I'm being picky but if anyone has advice i'd be grateful.
Even better still a group that operate on saturdays would be perfect.

Most am dram groups are socially driven and their year revolves around productions. To be part of the group you have to audition, then comes the rehearsals and the socialising. Then the plans for the next production, the fundraising, the auditions and so on.
If you don't want to audition immediately then ask to be involved in the production some other way, the productions do not rest on the cast alone (despite what they may think)!!

When it comes to workshops, they cost money and not all societies have that sorta budget to be organising workshops on a regular basis, but good directors will incorporate workshops into their rehearsal schedule especially during the initial stages.

Quick Google of drama groups south Dublin gives a few options. Drop them an email and see if you can get involved.
