I am a 45 year old male and Iv had dull pain in my back in the kidney area that I noticed more when I needed to pee , I've had it for for about 6/7 weeks but don't have any other symptoms . I am not losing weight and eating quite well . . I went to the doctor 3 days ago and he took a sample of urine which showed blood and protein in it. The pain is dull but when pressed is quite painful. The doctor said it could be a kidney infection and has prescribed a 7 day course of antibiotics. I have got myself very worked up having looked at the Internet and the word cancer keeps popping out. Now of course Iv convinced myself that I have it as I don't have a lot of the symptoms associated with an infection. I have to go back to the doc in 4 days however was interested in feedback which might ease my mind somewhat.

Sounds like a kidney infection. You should have gone to the doc weeks ago. Take the antibiotics and drink plenty fluids. The worst enemy of being ill is to surf the Net. Get Well soon.

Self-diagnosis is inappropriate in any serious matter as you lack perspective (and medical training). Even doctors aren't allowed self-diagnose on serious matters.

Put enough symptoms into a search engine and it will eventually tell everyone they have cancer, even if all they've done is stub their toe.

In anything like this, one must first must discount the mundane (kidney infection), before assuming the profound (cancer). But even if it is cancer, not all cancers are terminal - I know woman who has substantially outlived her prognosis and went on to have two happy children..

You've seen your doctor. Now finish the antibiotic course.

It, after finishing the course of antibiotics, you still have the symptoms you describe, go back to the doctor and take it from there. If the symptoms clear up, and you're concerned, go back to your doctor. In my experience, Dr. Google will *always* confirm your worst fears....see an actual doctor, face-to-face.

In the meantime, *Stop* stressing yourself.
