Moving clubs and changing from a leisure licence to open comp licence. Logged on to CI there says I can't pay or select licence type until transfer approved. Is this correct and will it try them charge me for a leisure and open comp licence?

I did something similar a couple of weeks ago. As far as I can see a transfer and a renewal are 2 separate actions. You have to put in the transfer request first. I presume this triggers a mail to the secretary of your current club who have to approve. Once the approval is in you will be notified then you can go and renew (and select your new category).

Be warned also that in recent years there have been issues in upgrading your license through the CI online portal, to the extent that they disabled the functionality at one point. If you're upgrading while taking out the license it may work ok, but mid-year upgrades have in the past necessitated phoning or emailing them to "prepare" the upgrade in the system, and then paying the fee there.

You should only have to pay the difference and the online portal should take fees already paid into account as the upgrade option is there now but as Cython said, previous years may require you to ring up when the system falls apart, but it might might work.

Your current club must release you, you then must click on your new club, then they must accept you (the online system may give the upgrade option at this point, I don't know), once this is done, you are either approved, in which case you must upgrade as per usual or call them up (I recommend e-mail, they are quite quick but understaffed and I completely understand the difficulties in getting to every phone call) if the option disappears.
