teaser ram

    I have two screw ram lambs about 40 kg, i was thinking of vesectomising them and using them as teasers how much would it cost or is it worth while

    I don't know if it's worth the hassle and expense. Assuming you run a stock ram ewes are seasonal breeders anyway and will come into season in the autumn.
    You can use the ram effect without teasers by letting the ram into the next field or by letting the ram in for 24 hours a week before letting him out for the season.
    the ewes will cycle every 16 days so hopefully you will have most ewes keeping to the first service.
    A teaser is of more value with cows for heat detection for AI.
    With 40 kg screws you must have great lambs though. Feed them on and they'll be gone before spring lamb becomes plentiful

    Maybe so i do use the ram effect so maybe best stick to that..........its january any march born lamb still around the place is a screw in my book!

    March born is quite old to still have about. 40kg didn't sound to bad I was thinking of a late born lamb though.
