Van conversion to a mini bus

Myself and my partner are wanting to get an 8/9 seater van but there isn't a whole lot about. We can only afford a used one. Someone mentioned to me about getting a van and getting it converted to a minibus. Has anyone done this?
Was it expensive? Does it raise insurance quite a bit because it's 'modified' ?
I've contacted par fit and motability Ireland and I'm awaiting the replies. We're really keen to do it (sick of 7 seaters!) but we aren't very knowledgeablei in these types of things.
Any advice is welcome! We're clueless

I don't think this can be done any more, it's not allowed on Taxis getting licenced for the first time, I would imagine private use is the same. Insurance will be a nightmare as their systems will primarily just quote for standard unmodified vehicles.

Have you looked at the likes of a Toyota Previa? Tax is high but initial cost should be cheap.

Ah I see. Thank you I'm so clueless.
We have looked at those alright but it would be more like a Volkswagen Shuttle we'd need. Need the seats and boot space too.

You could look at getting a minibus and removing the extra seats above 9(Inc driver). Then you can get an engineers report and change the log book and you can drive it on a car licence.
