If someone was in a RTA is it important they state truthfully where they were going at the time of the accident

Does it matter where they were going, will it affect any claim if they stated they were going somewhere else other than was was asked by the solicitor

Background info, someone had RTA going to her boyfriends house she stated to solicitor she was going to a meeting in a hotel when she was rear ended.

Issue is she's married, husband does not know about affair!!!

Better hope there are no husnbands with wives recently in court due to an RTA on boards.

Don't you need to tell the insurance company if you're going to use the car for travelling around for business?

If I was to lie about that.. I would have picked anything BUT saying I was going to a meeting in a hotel for the above reason, as they might enforce the clause where you didn't declare business use.

Of course it can matter if criminal charges arise which have to be defended in court. Slips of the tongue and iffy statements to Gardai can raise extra questions. So "I was going to a meeting in a hotel". "Which hotel?" "X hotel". Right, and coming from home? "Yes". "So why did you take a route that took you 2km off course, why did you not take the direct route?". Etc.

In a case of being rear-ended, it's not really all that important. It's generally more relevant for the insurance company who will want to make sure that the car was being used for the purposes that it was insured. So if you claim you were going to a business meeting in a hotel, but the car is only insured for class 1A purposes, the insurance company can refuse to cover your damages.

Again, in a rear-ender you're unlikely to be at fault, but the insurance company may refuse to deal with the claim at all, requiring you to chase the other driver for damages.

Gardaí only ask where you are going for statistical purpose. The only thing a person needs to say in a statement is what direction on what road they were travelling. However, if you deliberately lie on a statement or deposition or in court and you are caught out then you face criminal charges and you will lose a lot of credibility.

After an accident your insurance company will ask you to state the nature of your journey - where you were coming from, where you were going and for what exact purpose. The question is asked in order to establish if the trip fell into one of the categories covered by your policy.

Maybe the meeting in the hotel was about doing the business, rather than doing business :D

Just a made up excuse to get opinions on a situation, couldn't think of anything else to explain it lol
