Have many booked the boat yet? Just been on Irish Ferries website and there's lots of sailings at about 290 Euro, (plus cabin) each way.
Come back 31st August and its 165 euro for 2 adults and a child (plus cabin

Actually, if you're not tied to the school year, you can sail out 20th August for 205 Euro and back around the 15 Sept for 165 euro.

Booked back in December. Cheapest at the time was Stena. Rosslare-Cherbourg. Out mid July / Back mid Aug. Two adults plus two teenagers. €390 outbound €332 return. Plus cabins comes to €907. I left it later last year and the price crept up after February. IF were quoting four figure sums in December.
Is there ever an optimum time to book?

Not in July and August there isn't!
Like you say, the bargains are when you're not tied to the school year.

For first 2 weeks in August,
Stena are still the cheapest @ €904 - but they only go to Cherbourg.
Irish Ferries are next at @ €991 - also go to Roscoff so much handier if staying in western Brittany.
Brittany Ferries are the dearest @ €1114 - and only go Saturdays/return Fridays

    Hi

Sorry if I'm hijacking the thread. Does anyone know how easy it is to pick up French TV channels such as TF1 or M6 while over there? We will be in a campervan when the european championships are on, so would be nice to be able to tune in to a game or two.

Is it as simple as connecting a tv to a terrestrial aerial and do an automatic scan or do we need their version of a saorview box?

    Thanks.

HD is dvb-t mpeg4 same as here. SD is dvb-t mpeg2 which should also decode no problems with saorview tuner. You can check coverage here:

Booked O.Wilde departing 16 Aug. Returning 31 Aug. A 3 bed two star cabin each way. Motorhome over 7'6" high, Total coming in at€565.20
    Cherbourg.
Roscoff more expensive, and weekend's noticeably more expensive as well.
