VW bonnet won't close

    Hi all

Yesterday morning i pulled the lever on my 06 VW golf to pop the bonnet to put water in tank for the windscreen wipers. Unfortunately, it wont close at all.

The lever took a lot of effort to pull and now it feels loose like i broke something. For quite some time, it is like this when i pop the bonnet but usually the bonnet will still close and then it just seemed to fix itself but this time it will need to be looked at.

I managed this evening to unclip and take off the lever to see if i could pull back the wire and get someone else to close the hood but had no such luck. I think it may have come loose from the latch itself at the bonnet and not at the lever under the driver's side.

Has anyone any idea how long and how much it would take to fix?

I need the car for work and will really need it to travel from one job to another on Tuesday evening.

I know a mechanic who said he will look at it but been saying that the past 2 nights and Saturday might be the only time i can get it done due to work during the day and that's assuming i can get someone available.

The cables get sticky. They're like a bicycle brake cable and should really be lubricated. It happened to me and I got the bonnet to close again by pulling the release handle vigorously back and forth about ten times to free up the cable. Not the perfect solution but it worked.
