What years are the three cars? I have one that worked on a '99 Fiesta, and a '03 Focus, so Ford isn't the issue.

What app and phone are you using? Iphones won't allow the protocol for elm327

Depending on your app, at what stage in the process are you getting stuck

I presume you have the ignition turned to on?

Could be that you got a dud. I've one that never connects to anything. Cheap ebay one.

focus is 04, connect is 04, mondeo is 09 and it wont connect to any of them although it works on a 05 avensis and a 05 astra that ive tested it on

Im using it on a samsung galaxy s3 and using the torque lite app

Torque will read some parameters but not all, for Ford you have to use the Forescan app.
Exactly what dongle are you using?
I'm using a cheapo Ebay adapter, HTC phone and Forescan. It even reads ABS faults.

Mine works fine on my Ford.
Switch engine to position 2 and restart bluetooth

I had trouble with Torque connecting to my car/adapter once and this solved it.

In the Torque App settings under "OBD2 Adapter Settings", try enabling the "Disable ELM327 auto timing adjust".

Some of the cheaper Chinese dongles cannot read some one of the protocols used by Ford.

Have a small blue dongle as well and it refuses to read.
