Friend bought a car all legit at main dealer however logbook arrived today with a mistake in the name. Basically 2 first names were put down as first name and surname.
Its the garages mistake but some smart ass at the dealer said - ah sure it will be ok.

So should the dealer have a mechanism of easily rectifying this or is it down to doing a change of particulars on the back of the book and can a name alteration be done using that change of particulars section.

All the registered owner needs to do is write a letter to the vehicle registration unit in sunny Shannon outlining what happened, enclose the VRC and contact details of the supplying dealer and you should get a new one.

Quickest way would be contact directly change of ownership in Shannon, they will be able to send out a new one with corrected details, if you fill it in yourself and send back there's a risk of another owner being added.

There will be an owner added if you do it that way without a cover letter.

Does a main dealer who use online system have a rectification procedure at all?

Unless I'm missing something isn't there an option box to tick to change the name of the registered owner? I can't see how that would add another owner?

Yes but if that allowed you to change names completely, no car would even have more than one owner. Im assuming that is for when people get married or something like that but it might be a valid option in this case as its clear that the wrong name refers to the same person

There is an option to change surname, and that would probably work, But it's messy signing a made-up name and you're posting the cert anyway, so why not just send a letter which always works?

I had to do that last year. A cover letter and some proof was all that was needed
