I'm in the market for a new car, my 03 diesel focus has to go while there is still a few bob left in her. I do 20k miles a year just to and from work so a diesel is a must. 2.0 litre to 2.5 and leather are all I ask. I've the Volvo S60 d5 shortlisted as a strong possibility but also like the idea of a mondeo st. 150k miles would be my ceiling.

Anything bigger than above size wouldn't interest me as I like a reasonably compact car. Had a 530d before but found it that bit too big for parking etc.

How are the Hondas for overall reliability?

On the diesel model the VSC light can come on and if it does the unit is about a grand to get fixed, not sure how common that fault is though.

Chap here had an Accord 2.2 and had endless trouble with it. Put me off them completely.

Volvo D5 is the only way to go here. Love those engines

I suppose you potentially could get a diesel Avensis with leather, they would be ultra rare, very few of the petrols around even.

How about a Saab 9-3 or a Jaguar X type. Both still look good especially in the right colour.

    Peace and long life.

Was looking at saabs on done deal earlier alright. The idea of Saab having gone under and parts being potentially hard to get is weighing on my mind.

I test drove an X type a few years ago, was looking for a 320d and the local Bmw dealer had one just traded in but it did nothing for me. Ideally I'd like another Bmw having had 3 but any e90 in my price range is best avoided and a good e46 coupe seem to be making massive money altogether.

I've arranged to look at a maroon 07 s60 d5 at the weekend but the seller tells me it has an anti skid warning coming up occasionally which has me very worried. There's another deep blue one in a dealer in knocklyon but he wants 3k for it which is quite strong and it has breached the 150k mark. Decisions decisions!

That part is widely available now for much less than main dealer. Its actually a Bosch ABS unit and is common to many European cars as well.
I think its about 160 or so for a 2nd hand unit and 300 for a new one.
