Considering buying these expensive shoes

What do you guys think of these shoes? I like ebony colored shoes. I'd like them, assuming they wouldn't make my feet look big; but for some reason I've a small feeling that they might. Although they're nice, they wouldn't be something you'd wear on a daily basis if you're young.

It's quite a lot of money, but then again it's shoes that I'm most fussy with. It could happen that I might need something like this in the future on short notice. I find it so hard to find a unique pair of shoes that doesn't look ridiculous or attention seeking, but that's yet discreetly superior. But for special occasions I'd definitely like em. Have any of you had regrets upon not availing of a lovely pair of shoes? or difficulty in making a decision to buy them?

I could definitely picture Bryan Ferry wearing them!

Shoes is the one piece of clothing you should never skimp on. Buying a expensive (but more importantly high quality) pair of shoes will last you years. I'm in the US but i used to buy $100 Aldo shoes and after about 6 months they would be in bits. I decided that I'd bite the bullet and buy Allen Edmond's shoes at $350, it was tough initially to bit the bullet but in the long run it save you money. I bought the pair I'm wearing 3.5 years ago and they look close to brand new (they were recrafted about a year ago for $100) and certainly better than any brand new Aldo shoe.

But in saying that, I'm always skeptical of the level of quality of certain high fashion brands have certainly in terms of their price point. For brands like D&G, Armani, etc, you are paying an extra $200/$300 extra just for the label.

Are you just buying those shoes because of the label? or do you really like the style?

If your going to spend good money on shoes do your research first, for that money you could get a lot better quality.

These the shoes you're talking about OP?

Taste is subjective and all but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the above shoes are hideously ugly and at €294 D&G are seriously taking the piss for poor quality 'fashion' shoes with a fancy label slapped on.

I'd agree with Hazy's post - if you want shoes then get them from a proper shoe making house. The likes of Loake and Barker are where you should be looking.

I hate to sound arrogant, but at €294, those shoes aren't particularly expensive. I certainly wouldn't go for 'label' shoes (i.e. D&G etc), as you will be paying for precisely that - the label. I would go for English heritage shoes from Northhampton (C&J, Loake, etc), as you are not paying for marketing/ heavy promotion as you would with other brands. I have a number of pairs of Crockett and Jones, and the quality is excellent. The leather is really subtle and far superior to Loake 1880 (can't speak to the quality of Barker, as I don't own any)

    Thanks for your reply.

I had a look at some C&J. Want these now! But of course it's not available. Replace the two dots in link

Shoes in the original post would not be to my taste at all, and I am a firm believer in paying for quality. I guess what do you mean by formal occasion?

Would you be wearing them with a suit?

Stick to the likes of Loake, Barker, Cheaney, Church's. Shoe companies with heritage.
