New An Post service options

Got this from An Post account manager today

    MyParcel PickUp
is our ultra convenient Click & Collect service that sits as an additional delivery option widget on your retail site. It offers the reassurance of having items securely delivered to one of over 1,100 Post Offices, with customers popping in to pick up any time during opening hours, from Monday to Saturday

Our flexible inflight delivery service means that if your customer’s not going to be at home, we’ll call them in advance and they can choose where they want us to deliver – to a neighbour, a local delivery office or Post Office, even a local shop.

Both require online sites to add the options, and An Post are urging sites to do so.

So the days of having to travel miles to a delivery office may be over if the sites you use offer the options.

Well, a bit better than having to goto your local sorting office. The Saturday option will be nice.

So they'll actually have to bring the parcel with them, and not just leave a slip of paper? :pac:

They have an advertising site for this here:

    http://www.thejourneyofthings.ie/

But this is not consumer facing, it's down to the sending business to enable it.

That's very disappointing - maybe they didn't think they could compete with parcel motel/wizard? Wonder if many shops will offer it - I would definitely choose parcel pickup as an option.

You think sending companies won't offer this? No extra cost, HUGE extra benefit.

We have a meeting with our account manager on Tuesday and hope to implement it be end of next week. its a no brainer for anyone sending parcels.

So basically its something the vast majority of Irish consumers will never get to use then, they should have just copied the ParcelMotel model

Its only been available a few days - give it a bit of time.

The same type of complaining was about when parcel motel launched with "not enough sites" being the cry.

And its no use copying the PM system either, that's just duplication in a small market.

It seems that generally people just can't get themselves to say "well done an post" no matter what they do.

Well done for what? Implementing a half baked solution that is an attempt to fight off 2 innovative solutions like Parcelmotel and DPD Parcelwizard?

Don't get me wrong, I love my AnPost Courier driver, he is friendly, like clockwork (I know he is here around 1130) and on the occasion I'm not in, he knows which neighbor to use.

The solution (to integrate it into the ordering process) is not as good as for example the DPD solution which allows me to change it on the fly.

Having AnPost call me when I am not at home to get it re-delivered than is reactive, not pro-active like DPD.

What I need is a pro-active solution in case the company I purchased from does not deliver when agreed or in case of Amazon has delivery times that are giving by watching the moon combining it with the status of venus.

The German Postal Service solution for example (which is combining DPD, Nightline and AnPost solutions into one) is great, it's an easy service.

I agree with you, simply doing lockers like Parcelmotel is not the solution in this small market, but they are in the unique position to have loads of collection points, so they should have done a customer solution rather than a during the ordering process.

This is a bit off topic but didn't deem it worthy of a new thread. I am considering using An Post again for sending some larger items but their Aviation Security labels are a tremendous pain in the ass when sending large quantities. Is it possible to print your own and sign them?

Going back to the original post about Address pal, information was correct at time of posting.

Latest information is that it was due to launch yesterday 25/01 but launch has been put off for a further two weeks but who knows.

The neighbours option could be quite handy as I have just retired neighbours where there's a 95% one of them is in at any given time during the day... there is, however, Parcel Motel locker actually at the end of the road (4 mins walk) which is what I currently use and it might work out cheaper over a year than buying the neighbours a present!

I get the majority of stuff delivered to work as I'm the default receiver of random packages there anyway but I won't always be in the same job.
