I thought Amazon had free returns and postage on clothes and shoes?

However when I went to return some shoes, the return label said postage to be paid and I had to pay An Post €11 to ship it back to the UK!

    Will Amazon refund this postage?

In the past, when I did a clothing return it generated a free shipping label for a place in Ireland. Has this now changed for some reason?

Did you buy directly from Amazon EU S.a.r.L. or the market place?

Only free returns if the item is faulty. If its just not fitting you, then no free returns.

Well that certainly wasn't the case in the past and it still doesn't seem to be the case according to this:

The first sentence says "some items".

Unless the item description says "free returns" then you pay to return them.

Did you get a "Returns" printout to return the goods if goods not suitable? Same happened to me a few years ago. Shoes were too tight. I cannot remember if I got that printout with the shoes or through their Chat facility.

I did get a returns label, but it said postage needed to be paid by me.

I definitely saw the free returns on shoes at christmas, I was very surprised at it.

bk -have you returned loads of stuff in the past? I know they were blacklisting customers who returned a lot. Not sure exactly what they did, i.e. if they did not want you buying at all or just got rid of your return priveleges.

I've only returned 8 items over the past 4 years and they haven't always been clothes, broken/incorrect/damaged items too and I buy from Amazon almost weekly, literally spend 1000's on Amazon every year! So I don't think it is anything excessive.

Just heard back from Amazon. They say they will refund the postage, I just need to send them a picture of the An Post receipt. No explanation as to why this happened.

I'm very happy with their support, but concerned with why this happened.
