How much do you have to spend?

Up to 150, but really not an issue....I don't need to go overboard....just something decent and understated...

I have a microsoft sidewinder keyboard and I like it. It's probably not up to the standard gamers would like but it's a nice keyboard and the keypad is detachable so it can have a small footprint.

If €150 is your budget then anything mechanical and yes Logitech is a really decent company.

    No, normal keys.

    It's the x6.

g510 is fantastic, s is the same just with a blue bit of plastic around the keys.

I have a g910 spark... It looks cute, but I wouldn't recommend it. It's got showey lights, but it's much worse in terms of features coming from the G510.

G710 PLUS or G410 look good though.
G710 PLUS has the USB, and it's pretty inauspicious.
    G410 is small and shiny.

thanks - the G70 looks good....

quick question....when I was looking at its requirements, it says it need two USB ports////any ideas why (and not USB2.0 in case anyone thinks I misread....)

Potentially needs a dedicated USB connection to utilise any ports it has o nthe board, for example headphones, mic or usb ports.

Logitech is a pretty reliable and proven brand. The G510 is pretty much up there with their MX518. Legendary in terms of durability, performance and comfort.

My only issue with it, is that it has not budged in price over the years. I had one for donkeys, and it's now been with my father, but the keyboard is going on 7+ years old. It's also not mechanical(unless they have made it mechanical hence the rserved high price?)

I've heard nothing but good things about the Corsair K70 and a relatively new mech board from Roccat, that comes in around the same sort of money, if not a little bit more.

Personally, I'd struggle paying anything more then €50-60 on a membrane nowadays.

If I remember correctly, I got my G510 due to a mad pricing error on littlewoods back in the day :D

Well the disco lights can be turned off but the build quality or lack of is something that does get mentioned alot along with there own brand of switches not being as good as cherry mx's. I'm using a Corsair K70 and its a very nice bit of kit but with a price to match.

My Steelseries G6V2 has taken a battering over the past 3 years but it's still as good as new.

Try Razer BlackWidow. I have it and it's pretty awesome! Look for reviews first though

    Hi Cadete, a few quick questions;
Can the leds be switched off?
Can the wrist pad be removed?
How many USB ports does it need for the computer?
Does the keyboard itself have USB ports?
Is it noisy or relatively quite?
is it a UK keyboard or a French keyboard
    Thanks

I have a QPAD MK85 that I quite like but if you are looking for understated maybe you should look at Das keyboards.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 579 ✭✭✭jrby

they look nice, would be perfect if they had a small bit of back lighting....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 579 ✭✭✭jrby

re the qpad, can you turn off the lights / change them on a key by key basis?

I am just ordering myself(cancelled) but reviews I read are pretty good, but some of your questions in order from what I remember don't have great net at the minute to confirm,
Not sure you can switch off totally but believe they can be dimmed,
Comes with 2 wrist pads one large one small,
It needs only one USB afaik
It does not have onboard USB connections
    Reasonably Quiet I believe
French! Which is why I just cancelled, didn't check if it was qwerty until you asked so thx for that :) saved me returning it but if anyone has one I would love to hear thoughts on it

i see DAS have new gaming keyboards....look to fancy for me, although I might buy there regular keyboard....would have preferred if if it had some low key backlighting but seems to tick all the other boxes.....

The qpad has 3/4 light settings. Off, dim, slightly brighter, very bright. But you can't control individual lights or groups of lights, it's kind of all on or all off.

Don't know if you care or had considered it but if you are looking for macro keys it might be worth looking for keyboards where they are near the wasd keys. It wouldn't really bother me but on the qpad the aren't exactly near these keys and as far as I remember you have to press two keys to activate them.
