Hi, Just a post to say I’ve been approved and added to the long social housing list. I’ve also been approved for the full €390 per month HAP payment. I’m on the hard look out to rent a property for a single person, nothing too fancy. Cannot seem to find anything for €400 to €500 per month as I would not be able to afford anything over the €500 mark as I’m back in college as a mature student. I’ve never ever rented a property so very unfamiliar with the process involved. Any advice would be much appreciated. Cheers.

It would be easier to advise if you told us what area you are in!

Living in the Kilkenny area. It's almost impossible to find anywhere decent as all properties are €700 and €800 a month while the HAP assistance cap for a single adult is €390.00

I know from speaking to the housing officers that it would be a major struggle. I could fead between the lines that "good luck with trying to get anything near the cap range".

What about looking into a shared house?

Really like my own space. Shared accommodation not really suitable for me.

If there is nothing available within the limits, then surely a houseshare is your only option? What else are you going to do?

Once you accept that you are being offered a set amount of money every month to assist you with your housing need then you will just have to modify what you think you "need" to fall into line with that figure
You will get that amount, and no more.
You could agree to pay a landlord more, I understand the LAs are less fussy about this then the CWOs were, but you will have to finance that yourself
