So the car failed the NCT, reason: Offside front wheel bearing: play

Does anyone know, ball park figure a new bearing would cost for such a car, Mazda 6, 1.8 Petrol? I rang a garage and he sort of scared me, he mentioned that some bearings can cost up to €300. Now he's not saying it will cost that but I guess it could...I dunno, am I being lined up for a shafting??

A quick ebay search has the Mazda 6, the 02-07 shape, as a push-in front bearing. I'd say about €200 side fitted.

If I remember correctly the Mazda 3 ones are one piece with the driveshaft hence why they are expensive. Might be the same with the Mazda 6 one but somebody who knows more will confirm.

that's pretty much what the mechanic said, OK, I'm not as stressed about it now.
