    Hi all

My phone has stopped charging and is now dead. I've tried different sockets and different chargers and nada.

I've no money at the moment for a new phone but I do have insurance. Does anyone know if they provide you with a replacement phone if it's sent fir repair?

I've a phone interview on Tuesday morning so badly need my phone. I've no house phone either so panicking about interview

what phone is it? I've a pile of cheap chargers and my phone wouldn't work with them so it could be that

Failing that if you are on Vodafone, desperate for a phone, and in Dublin, I'm in Swords and have at least two hanging around here that you can have if you're stuck.

My OH also works from home pretty much all the time, so it won't be a hassle to meet up for you to collect a phone. I'll make sure it's charged up in advance for you if it will work for you

You can buy a Skype number for around a tenner as far as I know. They'll give you a no. with the area code for wherever you're based and the person just calls you via that.

Thanks guys. I'll hopefully get a cheap phone in Tesco didn't think of that. We were away for two night's over Xmas came bback to a flood, and lost a load of stuff we also got broken into a few weeks ago too. Duck I need a break :( based in cork

Might be worth trying a few other chargers, I had a similar issue over Christmas, assumed it was the phone but the 4th charger I tried worked! I'm not too sure about the insurance but you should be able to pick up a phone for about €20 for your interview if needs be so don't panic too much!

Ah sorry I can't get a phone to you on time then.

Try a few other chargers first.

Had this happen an iPhone before. Just stopped charging. Tried my chargers, tried my neighbours charger, had the battery changed, just wouldn't charge anymore, it couldn't be fixed. Had to buy a new phone

Is the sim okay? You could pick up a cheap sim free phone and just swap it over - whilst keeping your original phone too in case you solve the charger issue.

Try cleaning the charging port with a toothbrush. Seriously!

Yes that can work or a bit of white spirit be gentle just dab it - or take a closer look at the connection and make sure there is no damage to the teeth of it or the port - it may not be making proper contact and it could be simply just something bent or out of line.

A lot of people don't have spare cash.
    Even relatively well off.

If you cant spare 100 or the price of a phone then youve seriously got to make a change.

Theres obviously more wrong than simply unemployment if you find yourself in that position Mr Buffet.

The guy had his house flooded and then robbed - he has a job interview - he didn't say he hadn't already got a job - a spare 100 can be hard to find in these circumstances -

Had the same problem with both iphones that I've owned. It was a build up of fluff in the charging port from being in my pocket. I just poked it out gently with a pin. Problem solved.

Come on now - there are Masai shepherds and Lebanese refugees with mobiles. I saw one documentary with a rural Indian holy man who had one hanging off his loin cloth.
The people getting pulled out of the mediteranean had them. Street beggars have them. How broke can you possibly be.
My local library has a cardboard box to dispose of old working models.
Youd get one in the online adverts for a packet of cream crackers and a fresh pair of socks.
    Times must be fking hard.

OP has said they will probably get a cheap replacement phone, all they were asking was if they'll be issued a replacement if their own is sent off for repair.

Maybe you couldn't see the posts from way up there on your high horse?

Not everyone has spare cash after mortgage/ rent and bills are paid

    Hi all

    Thanks for all the replies

    Got sorted for tomorrow

PS for those quering why I can't spare the cash for a new phone, I'm unepmployed. I've been doing some volunteer work 3 days a week to keep me from cracking up. I have an interview tomorrow so hopefully something will come of it. This last year has been ****, my dad has had cancer, my cousin died, we got flooded, broken into, I almost got knocked down. I have bills to pay and food to eat which isn't easy to do on the dole. I went back and did two evening courses ( to add to my MA) and I am doing my best to get myself out of this situation. You really shouldn't judge someone for not having spare cash. Anytime I do I get my dad a pressie, or go up to see my aunt ( my cousins mum) so excuse me if I put my family and rent and bills before splashing out on a new phone and not having spare 100 cash. I lost a lot of clothes in the flood and personal belongings when robbed. Money isn't the be all and end all, my dad got the all clear from cancer a few weeks ago and that was the best thing to happen to me all year. So please don't judge people for not having spare cash :( you don't know how hard it is out there for people now, and I am doing my best to get myself out of this situation.

Thanks for all those SOUND people out there (PS I am a girl ;) xx)

Hey, I'm really sorry to hear you're going through such a tough time. It's pretty lousy that you were forced to defend yourself on here, not everyone has a spare 100Euro lying around 24/7.

What industry are you working in? If it's in my line of work I'd be happy to keep an eye out for you on the job front. No worries if you'd rather not share it on here though.

Best of luck with the interview in the morning! :)

Thank you! I have steam coming out of my ears re some of the posts here! Many are on unemployment or pensioners.... more interested in an extra bag of coal than a phone and not able to get that sometimes, I second the E10 Tesco mobile. I bought one for emergencies even though there is no signal where I live. when my digiweb dish got moved I went to town and was able to call family in Canada for a cent a minute.

    How broke is this country?

€100 is 2 weeks or more worth of grocery shopping for many people. It's a lot of bus fares. It's a GP visit and a prescription. It's shoes for two school kids, a top up for the electricity card, paying for a few months car insurance, an exam fee...

It's worth more for any of those things than it is for a smartphone.

Only a right tosser would act like it's no more than throwaway pocket money to be spent on a whim. What can anyone spare when they provide for a real need or try to keep something for a rainy day.

How detached from reality are you is a better question to be asking, money-bags.
