The tester needs to be able to see the wheel nuts.

Read this and do what it says

OP, I'm surprised they didn't allow you to fix the problem on the day. On VW and Audi alloys there is a small hub cap which hides the nuts, I forgot to remove it on my VW Golf for an NCT test a few years ago and when the guy drove the car out of the test centre and was walking back to the office from the car park, he pointed out the problem, said it was a technical failure (exactly the same as yours) but he said he'd give 5 minutes to sort it out (i.e. he would delay printing the failure result) so I whipped off the caps, asked him to come out and have a look which he did and he gave me the pass cert.

What you have to do is take off the hub caps, go back to the centre with the recent test result and ask one of them to look at the car, shouldn't take more than a few minutes. It will be free as they will not need to bring it into the test centre, it will just be a visual inspection in the car park.

Your tyre is older then 6 years. Replace it.

The second point is not a fail - it's an advisory, meaning that they are obliged to advise you that the tyre is over 6 years old & may need to be replaced because of it's age. If it hadn't failed on the first point (hubcaps) it would have passed with the same advisory note about the tyre. yOu don't have to replace the tyre for the visual retest, but best practice would be to replace it asap or at least before your next NCT.

    Thanks a million guys.

Why cant they just remove the wheel caps themselves btw? I dont think it would be that difficult?

Regarding the wheels, do i have to replace them next year or i would get an advisory again next year regarding the wheels?

Because if there's any marks on the hubcaps they'll be blamed regardless so it's easier to get the whoever presents the car to remove them.

You don't need to wheels just the tyres. You'll get an advisory again if you don't, but the rubber will be another year older.
