Hi, does anybody know if this external box has a battery inside.?
From other posts here, I understand that its not possible to buy new one.

Mine is malfunctioning lately, giving me 51 ab faults etc. Wakes me up at night, even when its not set. Lights not working anymore.
I don't have a engineering code. I can silence it with bypass of tampers and alarm when checking panel.

I am planning to take the external box down, maybe it just need cleaning terminals or something silly. Waiting for a ladder. When I have it down I am planning to replace the battery if it has one.

One more question. I have no engineering code for this, tried all options 1174. Start and end of phone of the installers. 1122. 1234. 0000. None of which works. It was installed in 2002. I rang the installers about 6 years ago asking for code. And they told me no....

I think its very cheeky for installers to put restrictions on somebody else's property.

    Hi
The external bell does have a battery that can be replaced . It is hardwired though.
Unfortunately we are not allowed to help you with engineer codes here any more.
However that does not mean the installers are restricting you. Any good installer familiar with Astec could reset this panel for you.

Hi, that's good news. Do you know if there's a supplier in Ireland for spare parts conversions kits for Astec?

I tried the procedure described I earlier posts for factory reset. Did not work. Must be locked somehow. The installer was willing to give me a code but not over the phone, only if I agree to service call/contract...

Anyway, only keeping this system going untill it sarts acting again. Was hoping to get 1-3 years out of it.

REW in Finglas & Ballymount often have the S22 interfaces. These would let you connect any global bell to the Astec system.
For the battery you would have to remove the old one & replace it like with like. Not the easiest job as they are hardwired.

I though, I should share this with others looking for help when working on Astec alarm, I did not come across it when going through older posts but its very usefull.

If you want to silence the bell inside and outside without engineering code. There is a operator command to bypass tampers and fire page 59 of the manual:
    - clear, 5, code, set
    - "bypass" is shown on the display
    - the only way to remove the bypass is to set and disarm the system

    Thank you.
A bit of a warning re the above. If the external bell has an intermittent fault that sees it connecting & disconnecting from the panel this will not prevent the external bell activating on its own power when it disconnects.

    Oops, thanks for this
it was quite all day today. If it wakes me up tonight again I will have to power it down completely tomorrow till I have all parts ready and the ladder. Did not want to torture my neighbors for 20 min. today. May have to do it tomorrow.

I have saab and s22. Only one not sure. Looking at wiring diagram - connecting s22 to gov saab.

    On the diagram
Terminal 1 From s22 goes to external bell (-) terminal 9.
    and
Terminal 2. From s22 goes to external bell (+) terminal 8.

    In reality saab board is.
    Terminal 9 is (+)
    Terminal 8 is (-)

Should I go by diagram markings or terminal markings?

    Help would be appreciated

Can you post all the connection descriptions from both the bell and the interface.
There are different bells and different interfaces.

    Strobe - >>>>>>>>>>>>>>Strobe -
BHO >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>BHO (If there is AUX - loop to this also
Tamper return>>>>>>>>>> Tamper return (Do not use any resistor)

Thanks Kool Kid for all good tips.

I connected it today. Had to reset the panel to factory settings as the new saab would not stop ringing with the user code.

But its even better now. I have factory engineering code access for future problems.

I have new saab next to the panel at the moment. If there is no problems till next Saturday I will get the ladder and install it on the wall outside.
