So I have an old HP laptop about 7/8 years old - not used it in about 5 years. Tried a number of different passwords but cannot remember what the hell the password is!

I have 100's of old photos on it and want to get them onto Google photos - how do I get into laptop? Call HP? Go into laptop type repair shop and see can some hack in?! Does that even exist?!

I have no record emails for this laptop or anything like that.

    HELP!

There are ways to remove the password from your computer. I would suggest removing the hard drive from the laptop and plug it into your computer.

You can then transfer the files over.

Download a linux iso, 650meg, burn iso file to a cd or dvdrdisk.
use burn image command burn at 2or 4x speed.
boot from cd .dvd drive .
click on computer , drive hp80gig ,windows, user ,eg tom, user, photos, music videos,
copy toa usb drive or burn to dvd.

4 dvdr discs 1.50euro dealz shop.

linux can read any windows pc os, bypasses, all passwords .
browse drive, windows, user, photos, folder ,

linux runs from cd, loads os into memory,
you may need to rebbot, press f5 or f12 boot from cd/dvd choose boot device ,
arrow key up down , boot from cd/dvd .

mint linux is easy to use for a non expert , menu is laid out like windows 7.

    choose iso mint 32bit .

Thanks - looks quite possible which is great.

Might go to my local IT repair shop as I am not too sure what any of the above means but glad to know I can get it sorted.

ASK the local it guy to download mint linux os on a disk.
ie make a linux mint boot disk.
put in a cd case to stop the disc being scratched .

boot from cd, turn on laptop, press f5 or f12 set boot device =dvd/cd .

laptop might boot from cd without you pressing any key .

browse to computer , icon, click,
disk hp80 gig, windows, user tom ,eg photos, music, etc copy data photo,s to a usb drive .
or burn to dvdr disc .

Why go to that trouble when it's so easy to remove windows password?

i posted a link to a bootdisk for cdr free ,in my previous post,s on this thread
windows password removal , password ediitor bootdisk. free to download use .

the link you posted is not free .
it might be easier for a non expert to just boot from a live cd linux mint .

not everyone who is a non tech expert, can get iso file , browse to an iso ,burn image at 2x speed from a disk burning program

True, this is a better link to the free one with very simple instructions.

Basically, at Windows XP Welcom Screen, simply press Ctrl + Alt + Del keys together twice, and you will be shown a “Log On to Windows” menu which you can specify User Name and Password.

In the User Name text box, key in Administrator and leave the Password field blank. Then press Enter or click on OK.

If there is not password protects the Administrator account, or blank password is set, then you will be able to access the Windows with full administrative privileges as Administrator

eg press cntrl alt del keys at the same time ,
    twice .

even a newbie ,non techie can try this in 2 minutes .

It is a user password, right? Not a BIOS password?

Do a Google Images search for the second to see what a BIOS password prompt may look like. Very 'basic looking'.
