    Hi There,

I've ordered one of these and I'm wondering what I should expect to see fuel economy wise.

The main reason for the question is that it's a 2.4tonne car with a 2ltr Petrol engine with an electric motor tacked on and I have a 24-30km daily round trip including dropping off and collecting small people :)

I saw some people in other threads had ordered / knew people who had. Two questions:

    1) have they arrived yet?
    2) what's the range on the electric engine like and whats overall fuel economy?

    thanks

Father in laws arrived Friday. Had a look around today and it's a Stunning car. No idea yet, but I'll ask him in a few days time. No point in asking before then.

He hardly got it from Bolands Carlow? One had just come off the truck as I finalised my order! Please do let me know how he got on.

Any idea when he ordered it, was it a long lead time? I've heard horror stories of 13 months :(

J&P in Cork. He had the loan of a D5 as soon as it arrived. He was told it was the first in the country at that stage, whether that's true or not I'm not sure. Ordered fairly shortly after that.

Ah Ok. Bolands gave me a T8 on Wednesday to knock around in for a few hours. It was nothing shy of awesome!

Are you going to plug it in every night? Your daily drive is around the electric limit so as lng as you don't cane it, you will likely be one of the few owners who get high mpg.

This is what I was really looking for the feedback from others on. Volvo say 1 thing but we all know real world is around 30% at least less than that. I'd like to think I can change my 2500 euro diesel bill every year can be reduced to practically nothing. But then again I'm not known for a light foot :D

A PHEV is a different beast though; the theoretical range of the battery is 40km; the petrol engine is only engaged when you need more than 80bhp or when the battery is substantially depleted. Someone using it at 50kmh might not drain the battery/engage the petrol engine over the course of the day. Conversely, a D5 XC90 over the same run would likely be very inefficient for all sorts of reasons.

I have a 12Km run that is on 80Km/h roads and then into town, lights, roundabouts, junctions etc in 60Km/h and 50Km/h zones. I'm really eager to hear what people have found in their PHEVs.

A brief update on this. Father in law has already put 3-4,000 km on the car. Worse fuel economy than his RX450h. Didn't specify how much, but he called it thirsty. The RX would have been lucky to get ~8.5L/100.

Thanks for the update. Is he making any use of the electric engine at all? Any idea what mode he's driving the car in? There are 6 driving modes and all will have different affects on fuel consumption.

    Ta.

It's been plugged in anytime I've seen it at the house. That's all I can say. To be honest I doubt he knows what mode it's in anyway.

Hah! Fair enough. I'll bump this every now and again and see if there are more users as more of them come into the country.

In case you're thinking this was all Power mode it's not, this was in all in hybrid mode.

It seems pretty obvious to me that he bought the wrong car given the mileage he is doing.
1800km per week or 165 miles per day. We can assume from that that he is using the petrol engine for at least 130 miles per day - and carrying around batteries that are of limited use in that type of driving.
If on the other hand he was doing 40 miles per day with a full charge each night, he would get about 2.5 l per 100km plus maybe 1 euro per day on electricity.

26 mpg against a claimed 135 mpg. What a joke. More proof that the whole EU system of testing car emissions and mpg figures isnt fit for purpose and needs to be overhauled.

He didn't buy it for economy. He had the D5 for a weekend and found it lacking in power.

Ah sure fair enough so. Wanting a big lump of a machine and power, 26 mpg is not bad.

It's fairly disappointing thougt its fuel economy is a good bit worse than the ten year old non plug in solution Lexus has. The RX has a 6 cylinder 3.5 lump in it. I wonder. Is the 4 cylinder 2.0 litre turbo petrol the best idea. Apparentlythe Volvo is a much nicer drive though.

I got high 20s mpg from a gs450h driving it hard. I'd imagine if he is driving the volvo hard, he is only getting the power benefit of the electric and little of the economy benefits.
In effect, he is dogging a 2.0T with a load of extra weight.

2000+ kg and 400BHP and loads of torque, high twentys mpg is savage. If he drove it economically he would do much better, but seeing as I am currently driving the same car desiel only and he found it lacking, he obviously like to drive enthuastically. Fair play I say.

I drove the T8 for a few hours a couple of weeks ago and it was a very nice drive. I also drove the D5 and it's a nice drive but the 225bhp is lacking in power for the size and weight of the car. Volvo did mention that there's a tuning package for the diesel that will improve the torque and bhp marginally, tweak the gear box and the throttle response. This is a polestar upgrade.

I don't care a whole lot about fuel efficiency to be honest but it would be great to have the weekly commute (24-30km) daily completely done on electric power. And then have the power of the petrol for longer journeys etc. I'm looking forward to it, I have to say. However they can not tell me when I'll get it.

Its looking like it'll go into the Model year 2017 production time. This could mean the car is more expensive. Specs could change etc. But I think it's worth it :)
