Galaxy S3 reboot loop

    Hi folks,

My son has not backed up his S3 GT-I9300. Of course he has lots of contacts, texts and photos. Now the phone has entered the dreaded reboot loop. No updates were installed, it seems to have happened out of the blue.

I've tried all the easy stuff like clearing the cache and the next step will be to take it apart and check that the power switch isn't stuck on, as I've read that can be an issue. I don't think it's the cause in this case, as the phone doesn't try and start when the battery is re-inserted.

Does anyone have any suggestions that don't involve a complete factory reset and associated data loss? At the moment he's going through the denial phase of the grieving process, but I share the responsibility for not training him in good housekeeping.

    A quick update:

Anyone familiar with the innards of the S3?

Are the two solder vias shown just below the switch the contacts, or do they just anchor the case?

    CEQKEc

I have a short between these two points, so if they are the switch contacts, then that might be my issue.

I'm reluctant to dismantle it any further.

Hmm, hope you can see the photo. It's marked public, but Flickr doesn't seem to be playing ball.
