Level of Spec of new car

I am torn between two options for a new car and am wondering if it will also affect the future resale.

Option 1: Cloth seats (not that nice a colour, sand colour)

Option 2: Leather seats, wood trim to dash and dvd screens for the kids in the back. Extra cost 4,850 euro.

My concerns are that with one kid and maybe a future kid the leather will be easily cleaned. However, the screens will never be used and could break, go out of date very quickly.

I know one person with light coloured cloth interior, it did wear well, filthy within a year, that was with no kids also

I would go with the leather if you can afford it. On the screens ,it's about you stopping the kids from going at them.

5k for leather seats seems outrageous. Seat covers bought from Amazon would seem a better option. Tablets are better and cheaper than TVs in cars and have a long term use. Most cars dont even come with CD players any more. The idea of paying for a dumb TV seems really odd. These will be a hindrance to anyone when selling not a benefit.

I see that as an issue, they screens are not built into the head rest, they are kind of 'floating' like the ones on this page http://www.carinfoandreview.com/2013-bmw-7-series-review.html

The perfect height, especially being a 4x4, for a kid to grab for leverage getting in and out of the car. Plus, my daughter has an ipad.

What car and spec is it?

Depending on the car in question, you could buy two or even three complete seat recover/retrim sets from a main dealer for that price difference!

I can't really see cloth sales negatively affecting resale unless it's a premium class car.

No doubt about it then. Go with the leather and wood trim now.

The VX will have a better resale than the GX if it's well minded.

I don't get the tv screens built into the back seat. Screams soccer mom. Ipads are perfect.

Leather would be important for resale. Especially for premium cars.

Manufacturers know this. Getting screwed in this at initial purchase would turn me off the car.

If a child has their head pointed down towards an iPad in the event of an accident, it can cause neck issues from just a small shunt.

If your child is using an iPad in the car, make sure it's attached to a mount on or around the head restraint

Didn't know that about child injury. Big yay for no longer having kids!

My kid sleeps the minute the car is moving, although she has an ipad its not used in the car. I was thinking as she ages she might use it. I can always buy a mount for it. Good to know.

If you think about someone sitting with an iPad and looking down at it, their neck has very little distance to travel forwards. Some idiot drives into the back of you and your head will jolt forward beyond your neck's normal range. Better to be looking straight ahead or up.

Try sitting upright, look at your lap and then see how much forward head movement your neck could take.

Sorry for going off topic, but in relation to the OP, go for the screens.

the screens are of no real consequence , the leather and the trim in a vehicle like that is completely worth it from both a comfort for you and a resale point of view. This business of 50k + SUV's with cloth seats is just awful, quite off-putting. Have owned 3 cars now with light coloured leather , its great to look at, really adds a premium feel, and once your out with a cloth and some leather cleaner once a month it'll keep very well.

Leather can be cleaned to bring it back to near new condition if it's not worn.
The problem is people not looking after it, a clean every couple of weeks would keep it in tip condition.

Factory leather these days seems to be poor quality and very expensive.
