Anybody watching this year? I'm still not a fan of breaking the show into two half hour slots. Wish it would go back to the full hour show

Won't be watching it as it's all too repetitive and even more so since it was split into two.

Can't get into it at all looked at the leaders and didn't like any of them. The show format is getting tired but needs a few twicks

Ugh. This again. Everyone involved in this is thoroughly horrible. I don't know who I hate more - the gluttons they humiliate on the scales every week or the self-righteous a***holes who've taken it upon themselves to save us all.

I think it's getting a bit tired now. Too many sob stories and manufactured drama.

And, to be honest, I don't think it's appropriate for a vice principal of a school to be appearing on telly half dressed to be weighed, and talking about looking for a man and so on and so on.

Call me old fashioned, but it just looks odd.

I've watched and enjoyed operation transformation each year since it started. I do enjoy the community spirit it creates with people making more of an effort to get out, to exercise and to eat better.

But this year the OT leaders really are not appealing to me at all. This program has been on the go for I don't know how many years now, but yet these people don't seem to understand or get what the show is about. They don't seem to be making much effort and almost require the 4 professionals to hold their hand through the process. I wouldn't mind but I'm guessing these people put themselves forward for this program and want to change, but you wouldn't think it from watching them on tv. Now I know the show has be edited and condensed into an hour long per week.

One leader in particular doesn't seem to be taking it seriously, by eating out, eating off the plan and I actually seen the leader at an OT parkrun who chatted away with their friends while the parkrun race director was trying to give the safety briefing (without a loudspeaker).

I kind of feel that some of the exercises they do are not done properly, especially squats and jump squats but maybe because they have more weight they have to be careful. Holding water bottles which are no more than a pound for the thinner contestants seems a bit pointless too. They could hold something a little bit heavier than that I'd think without it compromising their form or health. Maybe I'm wrong though.

Embarrassed with forced angle of using the girls dead mother as a reason for her weight gain and constantly bringing it up for drama.

The principal on the TV is fine, she's a middle aged women trying to lose some weight and would be relatable to most viewers. The fact she's looking for love is not out of the question either sure she'd have to explain the lack of one during interviews about family life etc anyway.

It's the diet that losing the weight, those exercises seem so pointless(very little intensity). They are doing for the shake of it, sure a half an hour walk every day would have the same affect

No me say half an hour walking would be better

Nice to see a cook in the kitchen with a big sweaty head and hair hanging over his face! Put a hairnet on for fssk sake! Even if its just for the cameras! Gross!

OT launching another campaign, this time against Coca-Cola.

How did they do with their campaign to get calories on menus.

At least they're trying. Lying back and accepting it won't do much

I don't mean to be cynical but this show doesn't have the best form in following through. I remember one year they made a show of an obese child only to never show him again.

All I'm saying is that it's cool to highlight these things for the tv, as long as the plan is to do more than just use it as an excuse for content.

Ye I'd actually like to know what happened that kid.

WOW! OT is being very brave tackling a big global company like that!
I don't think they got much further with putting calories on menus and I don't think it will be a priority with the election coming around either. But I seen a article in the last few weeks about Karthryn Thomas saying that she's been trying to get her restaurateur boyfriend to put calories on his menu.

Either way they are barking up the wrong tree. Coca Cola are not the reason for our obesity levels. A lack of willpower and a culture of convenience are.

I think the child's family and doctors didn't want him to be shown again because of bullying and people say things in the street. I remember reading that awhile ago

I actually do think that putting calories on menus is a good idea. I think people are oblivious to the amount of calories that a meal can contain even when they are going out or having a takeaway. Saying that it should be more detailed and break down the fat and sugar content. It would make eateries more aware and consumers more wary.
Well I suppose diet is 90% to losing weight, but given the weight that they are losing without resistance exercise they won't build muscle and will be left with more flabby skin. Yoga is an example of a low intensity but bodyweight bearing exercise. I go walking most days and do yoga too but the walking is mostly because I strained an old back injury so I have to be careful. It's driving me nuts not to be able to do more intense work.

That's not necessarily the case. Coca Cola are masters at manipulating the market to their favour. And in general when you think about how bombarded we are on a daily basis with unhealthy food choices even outside of supermarkets (they have sweets in Boots, in Next, Debenhams) I can't really judge people's food choices. Young people are raised on a convenience diet and really no no different. Even the amount of sugar young children are given is borderline ridiculous. Are bodies are hardwired to go for the fat dense, sugary food. Fed up is a Netflix documentary that reveals some pretty shocking stuff about the power of these business comclomerits.

They are businesses whose objective is to make money, not account for the poor health choices of society. I refuse to accept the bombarded argument. Just because it's there does not mean that you have to reach into your pocket and hand over the money. There are a lot of healthy options out there too.

Back to my point.....why focus on or draw the line at Coca Cola? Are they any less responsible than Cadbury's, Mars, Nestle, Ben and Jerry? It's the wrong battle to fight and it won't make a dent in the junk food industry. Coke or ice cream won't kill anyone but a lack of appreciation that eating them all day is harmful will.

Will I do, especially for young children who are vulnerable to that kind of marketing. Certainly in the US government officials back certain companies or indorse them to provide jobs. It may not be to that extreme here but I can certainly see how a person would struggle with eating healthy. You may not agree with that but that's the way I see it. Sometimes it not so easy to put it down to a lack of willpower.
I was using CocaCola as an example.

Ads like the current miwadi one for instance are misleading. "Drink more water, just add miwadi"

Two of the leaders gained weight on this week's shows, what kind of plans are they giving them at all!!

Plans are probably OK. Doing resistance excersises with .5kg water bottles is pointless and irritating to watch

You mean you didn't "feel the burn" during the breaks. Standing on my toes against a chair for 5min really burned the calories for me:rolleyes:

I think the leaders for this season were a poor selection. They seem to have much more going on with them than just weight problems. Now I understand weight issues can be symptomatic of deeper problems but most of them don't seem to be in the right headspace to give the show and the challenge of kick starting their weight loss the attention it deserves. There's more going on with these people than what the show can do for them, what the public should be viewing (which is IMO private) and they should not have been selected for something as intrusive and stressful as this show.

No! Everyone has stuff happen to them it's just this year with only 4 contestants and 2 shows they have to go searching for filler. How many middle aged people have been untouched by death, mental health or diseases? They could be a lot of playing for the cameras too while you might't think about the death of a parent/going into a home from one end of the week to another you can hardly act like you are content when it is brought up

The mothers horrified reaction to the dress was priceless. It was seriously booby in fairness.
