Starting a cosmetic online store

    Hi all,

We are playing with an idea of opening a cosmetic online store that sells to both local and international customers. But we are not sure about a good few things. To note we have no business background! We will appreciate it if someone that has experience of starting an online store to shed some light.

    1. Do we need to acquire a "Certificate of Free Sale for Cosmetics"? We only plan to resell different brands so does this still applies to us as well?

    2. If a person has an allergic reaction. Are we liable?

    3. If we import from suppliers based in US or Asia are there anything we should be aware of? Such as tax or regulations?

    4. Which authority could we go to to inquire?

    Thanks in advance. :)

What supply chain have you lined up?

Posting restrictions will be one problem. You can't post liquids abroad using airmail.

Massive amount of competition is another - both online and offline.

You can't simply import cosmetics from USA as they need eu testing and labeling

Suppliers of any decent brands are very strict on who they supply.

What are you going to do different that will persuade people to buy from you rather than all the other similar sites out there?

Seems like a very tough market to compete in given so many big players in there already. Business is tough enough without jumping into an area you have no experience in.
