is there a rule about having to do 2.5 hours of religion a week? do school tend to ignore it? my own kids have one 45 minute class a week and I asked one of his friends that goes to the local catholic school and he said the same 1 class a week.

It's supposed to be 2.5 hours per week, but with such a crowded curriculum, it could happen, that outside 2nd and 6th class less time is spent on teaching religion.

In reality it's often less than one hour per week and might peek at 2.5 hours in the run up to Christmas/Easter etc. There really just isn't enough time in the day!!!

yeah i know from teaching practices a lot of teachers consider the prayers to settle the class in the morning as religion time and unless it is 2nd or confirmation class it tends to take the back seat. or it involves colouring in a picture or singing a song so sometimes it may be hard to be recognised as actually being religion

It totally depends on how religious the school/teacher is. I know of teachers who teach it each day for 30 minutes and teachers who gloss over it and throw in the odd half and hour here and there. (I'm a teacher so speaking from experience!)
