Anyone know whether softwood would suffice for garden decking?
Hardwood is twice the price but if everyone is usually happy with softwood
    I'd go with thay.

Hard wood might be twice the price but keeps its colour and last a hell of a lot longer than soft wood decking

In my opinion decking doesn't suit this country's damp climate at all first sign of rain, frost or even a heavy dew and your back yard is a death trap and a grand cosy breeding ground for all sorts.
I'd go with paving, loads of options and put down correctly will last a life time or two with just general cleaning
