It's not a good week for male celebrities of a certain vintage.

Yep. Death must be pissed off about something. Did we forget his birthday?

    RIP

Always got mixed up in the bear in this and the one in Gentle Ben.

Bart The Bear, who starred in this, acted many various roles in movies and TVs throughout his career.

    Talk about typecast!

Sadly I think he went the way of numbers 1 to 6.

Ahh the memories of Saturday evening and Grizzly Adams, Ben (the actual Grizzly) and Mad Jack.

Of course Mad Jack also used to visit his nephews the Dukes down in Hazard county from time to time.

    Ahh the memories. :)

I am not allowed discuss …

I remember Grizzly Adams being on TV Saturdays too - late afternoon/early evening. After Sports Stadium and before the paedo who fixed things.

    I loved Ben.

And we would always have a grand 80s Saturday tea of chips or potato waffles, sausages, rashers, and beans or spaghetti hoops.

On a tangential note, at what point did David Bellamy completely disappear off the telly?

.....I remember them, because I'm old. I also remember having to pick what kind of cider I was going to get locked on. Last time I looked in an off-licence fridge (purely out of curiosity) there was nothing but shaggin bulmers....

Wasn't that show axed because of rumours of beastiality with Dan and Ben? He was in court or so I was told.

    RIP Grizzly.

Not may people know this, but he made pink Long-johns with the detachable sh1t flap fashionable in the late 70's.

Grizzly Adams did have a beard.

What a great life they both had together in the wilderness. RIP Grizzly Adams.

    What a series that was.

It made "What in tarnation?" and "molasses" and "creek" part of our everyday language in 1970s Ireland.

    Me too.
After a sudden bout of nostalgia a month ago I read up about the Grizzly Adams production and Dan for the first time since watching it as a kid.
What years was it shown on RTE?
There's no way I learned the whole theme at the age of 6.
I'll listen to a bit of Thom Pace for the rest of the night :(

Mid 80s if my memory serves me correctly.

It was great tv from a different simpler time. Educational and usually a happy ending.
Years ago I spent a few days alone in one of those isolated cabins in a woods in the states, no electric etc.....I had that theme tune in my head all thru the break.

Ah God, this is terrible, I loved that TV series so much. I grew up near a wood and used to pretend I had to go and live in it because of being on the run (most often after having a fight with a sibling or taking biscuits when I shouldn't have, the innocence :-() ) I would sing the theme song as I was running off!!

Singing this out loud as I type.

Deep inside the forest is a door into another land,
Here is our life and home,
We are staying, here forever in the beauty of this place all alone,
    We keep on hoping...
Maybe, there's a world where we won't have to run, and
Maybe, there's a time we'll call our own,
Living free in harmony and majesty,
    Take me home,
    Take me home.

I seem to remember that being a hit back in the 70's? The Haggerty lad had an interesting career in Hollywood. Was one of the guys who helped build the bikes for Easy Rider IIRC and was in the film too in a bit part. The original film made on a budget of about 200 quid made gazillions. The TV show did a Fawlty Towers and only ran for one season too. I think there were a couple of tie in flics though?

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.
