Expiry date on Car insurance policy

So I received a letter from my Car insurance broker and due to them being pants I'm switching to someone else. but do I need to have my new insurance come into effect on the expiry date or should it come into the effect on the day after?

The next day. The old policy will expire at the end of the indicated date i.e. at midnight.
